Nikon D3100, is an update to the entry-level DSLR range (the predecessors being the D3000 and the D5000). One of the big changes to this camera is that it now has 1080p video mode and AF-F, continuous auto-focus during movie mode. What really sets this camera apart is the ability to guide the user step-by-step on how to take pictures; this is a perfect feature for amateur photographers as well as the rusty professional. The 14.2 megapixel CMOS sensor is at the heart of this camera, giving it ISO 100 to 3200 (with a high ISO 12800 option), 3 frames per second continual shooting, 1080p 24fps MPEG/h.264 video with continual auto focus, an 11-point auto-focus system with 3D tracking, 420-segment RGB II metering, automatic image sensor cleaning, in-camera retouch options (including trimming of video clips), and a built-in pop-up flash.

So what are people saying about the Nikon D3100?

Positives:
Small and light, fits well in the users hand
Continuous Auto-focus
Newer lenses*
One hand operation
Nikon D3100 camera looks the same as the D3000 and D5000

Negatives:
Could be a bit bigger
Screen is good but not great
Screen Resolution 230k
No way to get external audio onto this camera

*As compared to the D3000 and D5000
