As you can see in the clip, Mike, has provided a side-by-side video comparison of the Panasonic DMC-ZS7 and the Sony DSC-HX5. In bright light the images on the left (the Panasonic DMC-ZS7) are extremely clear and vibrant. On the right, you can see with the Sony DSC-HX5, they image is a bit dull, and the exposure is lacking. The (AF) Autofocus factor on both of the cameras could be a little better.

When looking at the flowers, particularly the bright yellows and purples, the Sony pulls more pink tones white the Panasonic stays truer to color. Unfortunately the Panasonic lacks when zooming, while the Sony has constant resolution quality.

Under the cherry blossom tree the Panasonic is having issues in the lower light, but the Sony is picking up both color and vibrancy fairly well. As you can see at the end of the clip, the Panasonic DMC-ZS7 does not do well in direct sunlight without a filter or having the exposure settings adjusted, it is too florescent.

In terms of overall image quality, the Panasonic DMC-ZS7 is definitely the way to go if you are going to be shooting in well lit, outdoors situations.
