Disappointed (9:23 AM, August 04, 2013)
GoPro HD Hero 2 is a pure engineering mistake. 60m waterproof case but absolutely useless underwater as it shoots out of focus because of the curved window before the lens. To shoot in focus one has to buy new underwater case for like 50 Euro. Yeah, right! The one I bought has dead pixels and huge firmware issues. I got it replaced (for which I waited a month). The second one is OK but the firmware still has a lot of bugs (updated to newest). Microphone input jack is a joke. Once I connected a microphone and later removed it, the camera stopped recording audio from its internal mic. I had to open the camera and fix it myself or wait another month for repair or replacement. Also the PC software is crap. Most of the time it works like I have 15 years old PC. The conversion to different format or combining clips in one movie doesn't work (software crashes). GoPro support told me that it is because of my graphics card (average class card ATI Radeon which can do hardware rendering with tools like Sony Vegas).
So in short GoPro HD Hero 2 is not worth the high price tag and support is almost useless. Right now I am researching for another tough camera because GoPro is just too expensive for what it is. May be Hero 3 is a little better (underwater case is OK this time and video is a little better) but I don't think I will pay the high price again just to end up disappointed again.

the hero 3 does have external mic capabilities, you just need to buy a $20 adapter from gopro! lol

gopro 3 has mic input but you need a adapter

omg (4:45 PM, February 05, 2013)
no gopro has built in flash, and the hero 3 has no mic input. :( i have both. hero 2 is awesome for external mics. hero 3's video quality is way good, but no external mic capability is a bummer.
