Hi, Paul.

The MP value that Snapsort displays is a calculated value we call "True Resolution". We don't just show the MP value that the manufacturer quotes on their spec sheet. True Resolution takes into account the sensor size of the camera when stating how many MP it has. Tiny sensors, like the ones in these cameras, can only resolve detail up to about 9.8 MP. Anything after that ends up being a waste.

We have a detailed article explaining how all this works: http://snapsort.com/learn/sensor/true-resolution.

comparisons against canon cameras on this site have numerous incorrect data. For example, the canon sx210 is a 14MP resolution camera, not the 9.8 listed! That's a huge difference. Comparisons between cameras and the canon sx130 again listed the incorrect megapixel values for the canon, which is a 12 MP resolution. Shoppers should make sure they double check features against other sites that list the correct technical specs.
