You're right Ryan, looks like we have the wrong value, according to Nikon the S4000 will shoot 0.9fps for up to 3 frames:

"Top Continuous Shooting Speed at full resolution Up to 3 shots at approx. 0.9 frames per second"

We'll update that.

Hi Ryan, we'll double check that and get back to you. Nikon's USA site seems to be inaccessible right now so I'm having trouble confirming. There are however many point and shoots that shoot 10fps continuously (including the Nikon Coolpix P100) so its certainly reasonable to expect that the S4000 might shoot at 3fps.

As best I can tell from my research your statement of 3 fps continuous shooting for the Nikon is way off. Please look into this as I believe it is a gross misstatement and a big deal for point and shoot cameras. I wouldn't think twice of all the other differences between the cameras if it truly could shoot 3 fps. My dSLR at 10X the cost (without lens) only has 3.5 fps.
