Hi Amy, its hard to say for sure. I'd guess that the Panasonic ZS7 is a small step up in terms of image quality, not a huge step. The ZS7 is a great camera with a number of other advantages including a wider angle lens, more zoom, etc. The ZS7 is definitely one of the better all around cameras and has good image quality, but its got the same small sensor size as all the other cameras, which is the main limitation for image quality.

The Canon PowerShot S95 is basically as good as you can get for image quality in a camera of that size, Panasonic's Lumix DMC-LX5 is not far behind, see Panasonic LX5 vs Canon S95.

I've had my canon powershot A520 for about 5 years now. I want a camera that will produce noticeably higher quality images. I'm looking at the Panasonic ZS7 and the Canon PowerShot S95. Will both of these camera be a huge step up from what I have now? Is the Canon significantly better than the Panasonic?

See the specs page, we do have the correct resolution of 12.1MP. However, when comparing cameras, we calculate a true resolution based on the camera's sensor size.
