We've updated the S5's specs to say it has a flip out screen, thanks again.

Good catch, we'll fix up the fact that the S5 has an articulated screen. The site does have the Canon SX30 as 14 megapixels, see the specs page, it calculates a true resolution limited by the sensor size for comparison.

You mentioned that the SX30's lens closes down to f/5.8 (at 840mm), whereas the S5 does f/3.5 (at 432mm), so the real question is what f-stop does the SX30 do at 432mm? Care to check for us?

You err on saying the Canon S5 has no articulated (flip-out) screen.
You err on saying the Canon S30 is 9.8 Megapixels. It's 14 Megapixels.
I currently own both. Despite the obvious advantages of the S30 (mainly in good light), the S5 has the advantage of an f/3.5 lens at full tele whereas the S30's lens closes down to f/5.8 at full tele.
