Green arrow Too close to call! Snapsort considers these cameras too competitive to make a clear recommendation. This recommendation, however, should be taken with a grain of salt since it doesn't always make sense to compare a compact with a pro digicam.

as much as i love this site, i dont think in this casee the points do make that much sense. one camera shoots raw and has a larger sensor than the other - that automatically puts it into a different category. really hard to compare apples to oranges

Hey Snapsort,

I've been comparing point-shoot cameras intensely for the past 2 weeks, my gf really likes the S95 but I've been wondering if there's anything comparable to it.  I went to a couple Black Friday events and wasn't sold on their deals...anyways thanks so much for helping me sort through all the differences, I think I know what I'm getting the best possible deal now...goin with the 300hs.  You guys rock.

Wide apature is not related to a wider angle/zoom. A higher perfomance lens has lower apature - i.e. it use a faster shutter speed in lower light. Wide angle (for ex. 24 mm) means you get more in the frame. A 24mm lens with an apature of 2.7 will get more content in but requires a higher ISO or slower shutter speed to get enough light in the picture. An F2.0 (apature) camera is 'quicker' - it can take the same picture with lower ISO or quicker shutter speed - an advantage in low-light situations.
Check any proper camera site: lens prices go way up for faster, higher quality lenses, regardless of angle of field. Consider them as separate features. If you don't know the difference between F2.0 and F2.7, likely your camera work is not sophisticated enough for it to be a determining factor.

Hi Colin, thanks for checking out Snapsort and taking the time to send us some feedback.  Good call, that is rather inconsistent on our part.  We'll work on improving that!

I love these comparisons and would be pretty lost (or at least much shorter of time) without them. The feature-by-feature breakdown lets me jump to what's most important to me (in this case, size and aperture) and disregard what isn't (# of megapixels, zoom range). My only complaint about the site is about what seems to be a glitch in the software, or something: The comparisons frequently seem to conflict in their summaries of individual features. For example, on the left, one of the reasons to consider the S95 here is its "Significantly wider aperture" than the 300 HS. But on the right, I see that "At its widest zoom, the S95's lens captures slightly more light (0.9 f-stops)"

So it's a little tricky for the ignorant observer (me) to know if f/2.0 is *way* more desirable than f/2.7, or just *kind of.* That's about it for issues, though, as far as I can tell. Keep up the great work!

Colin
