I'm a YouTuber, currently using a Full HD compact camera for my videos (Canon PowerShot S100) but considering buying a DSLR to keep at home and use all the time, and then use my S100 for vlogs when I'm going places. Is there any point in buying a DSLR and if so, which one would you recommend?

it depends on your requirements and budget. If you want to buy lots of lenses in future and want to save money then, Internal focus motor of 600D will help you to get cheaper lenses. buit-in focus motor in nikon starts from models like D90,D7000 onwards which are bit more costly. Personally I would suggest(focus motor will not be there so only AF-S lenses can be used for AF feature) to go for nikon D5100 which is having better performance and also low in budget.

Nikon is better for beginners, to use like point and shoot cameras.
