Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS5 Photo #4 Between Stow and Fountainhall

As the Waverley Route climbed up the valley of the Gala Water towards Falahill Summit, the tracks skipped back and forth across the river on a series of plate girder bridges, most of which have survived since closure in 1969. Vegetation clearance with a view to re-laying the tracks has re-exposed much of the original railway ballast at this location. This view was obtained from the Hawick to Edinburgh bus on the adjacent A7 road. 14th October, 2012.
