Very well i've received one and it can be great. Genuinely verry very good pics plus the motion picture's are allso super. The size is little so it is possible to acquire it all over the place.

i have(access) to 4 cameras the 2 previous mentioned as well as an Olympus tg610 and a nikon coolpix s100 none of them will record for over 28minutes unless the resolution is dropped to VGA or qvga then recording length is limited by only file size and battery life why 720p and above is limited I don't quite understand

I really think that a firmware tweak could allow for in camer HDR video if so i would reccomend this for everyone as an all purpose camera especially for $280 USD and it fits in your pocket with a 24x zoom? The would be an unstoppable camera if someone(not necessary Olympus) would take the time and effort to write some new firmware that allows for raw as well as HDR Video and high frame rate sequential shooting .5mp at 320fps would be amazing, and only limiting the video length by file size instead of an internal timer, I have 3 SD cards over 4gb all of them class 10write I should at least be able to do 1 hour at 720p with my Olympus sp800uz but the firmware only allows for 28 minutes, my Pentax optio wg1 even less at 23 minutes its not a file system limit or cache buffer limit, the buffer on the Pentax is only 54mb not enough for a minute of 720p, let alone 23 this is solely firnware design, intended to keep the dedicated video camera market open

Just bought it after recommendation and i must say i have been impressed so far.Taking it away with me this weekend and will be requiring it for portrait, macro, video and document recording. So i shall get a good insite to what its like.

We bought this and it does a terrible job with skin tone.  You take a picture and every inanimate object is beautiful, but skin is indistinct.  I regret buying it.  It does great portraits, it does nice distance, but if you are taking pictures of family, it's terrible.  Also, if people are anything but absolutely motionless, they blur.  There is an active setting, but it is doesn't help much.

It's got custom white ballance dude. and it's very easy to use, not hidden in far away menu's.

Well i've got one and it is great. Really verry good pics and the movie's are allso super. The size is small so you can take it everywhere.

Olympus SZ-30MR NO RAW Still Image Format...it's bad for dcamera with megazoom, megapixel & full HD! Sorry!

Olympus SZ-30MR. Custom white balance: No. Auto White Balance. Photo made indoors while cloudy outside. Way too blue and ugly! 99% of people make this shot and never think anything more about it. Cloudy White Balance. Wow! Warm, golden, and just like it's supposed to look. I did this on my Canon SD700 point-and-shoot. Every digital camera over $50 and even most camera phones provide this adjustment. Conclusion: White balance (WB) is the process of removing unrealistic color casts, so that objects which appear white in person are rendered white in your photo. Proper camera white balance has to take into account the "color temperature" of a light source, which refers to the relative warmth or coolness of white light. Our eyes are very good at judging what is white under different light sources, but digital cameras often have great difficulty with auto white balance (AWB) — and can create unsightly blue, orange, or even green color casts. Understanding digital white balance can help you avoid these color casts, thereby improving your photos under a wider range of lighting conditions.

Hi Eusen Marianne, sorry I missed your question. I suspect the Panasonic sensor is actually slightly bigger, and we're showing rounded values, and that is accounting for the difference in the sensor scores.

Both have very similar size sensors, I don't think it will make much difference either way.

Maybe iI asked the wrong question at the wrong place, but why is there a difference between the sensor scores of the Olympus SZ-30 MR and the Panasonic TZ-10? To me it seems they have the same sensor size, so why not the same score. Olympus has a CMOS-sensor, Panasocic the CCD. So wich of the two has the best sensor?
And.... I´m not an Olympus -employe, just a simple first time buyer of a compact camera. To me, concerning all features, Olympus SZ-30 MR is the best. If I´m wrong, please tell me.

Olympus SZ-30 MR Sensor size 1/2.5" 6.1x4.6mm scores 35,0 x 36,4 = 12,7
Panasonic TZ-10 Sensor size 1/2.5" 6.1x4.6mm scores 40,0 x 36,4 = 14,5

Why this difference?

I do think popularity is not relevant for the performance of a camera. So if I deduct the popularity score, the Olympus SZ-30 MR is one the best, so not the best of the travelcameras!
