Nikon Coolpix P5100 Photo #33 Ring-tailed Lemur (Lemur catta) feeding on tamarind leaves, Tsimanampetsotsa, Madagascar

The Ring-tailed Lemur (Lemur catta) is largely confined to gallery forest and spiny scrub in the southern parts of Madagascar. It is one of the most terrestrial lemurs, spending up to 33% on the ground. This is a very social species, generally seen in groups. Even though Ring-tailed Lemur are oportunistic omnivores, up to 50% of their diet consists of the leaves of the Tamarind tree (Tamarindus indica), especially during the dry (winter) season.
