What have you decided to buy?  I am evaluating as well...I am leaning towards the d3100.

This happen to me with my laptop. Lucky for me I used to work for Best Buy and I knew they were scamming me. Those warranties become as good as gold when they give you this option, but you need to know how not to get scammed. The first thing Best Buy does is find something comparable to your item. When they find this item, they give you the option of taking that camera OR taking the value of that camera that THEY choose. Here is the catch. THEY NEED TO MATCH EVERY feature on your camera or give you something better. If they cant match all the features of your broken item, then you are supposed to get the full amount of what you paid for the camera. That amount then can go towards any SLR camera sku. This does not include bundles they may be offering with additional lens. The lens that comes with the camera is the lens you get. If you can find one feature on your D40 that the t2i doesn’t have, I would go down to best buy and let them know you didn’t know any better. If you cant get anywhere , call the cooperate office and explain to them you were screwed over with a camera that is not comparable and you feel that you should’ve been given the option of a better camera. IE. d60. It may be too late at this point, but at least next time you know. Im surprised they haven’t been sued for this. Sorry angel but they shouldve given you the value of the d60. Those warranties make them a fortune.

I'm sorry to hear about that frustrating experience! Presumably the Canon 60D is the closest thing to the 40D these days?

I just recently took my canon 40D in to bestbuy to be repaired (had warranty) they said it couldn't be fixed or rather cost more to fix so they (what I thought was exchange with another 40D or gift card for same amount) told me they would give me what they say is compariable to the 40D which was in the amount of 900.00 for a rebel t2i to which I was not very happy after spending $1800.00 for the 40D and don't believe the 2 are even closely compariable yes the rebel has a higher megapixal but loses out on shutter speed and alot of other factors. Can someone who knows more then the people that work at bestbuy tell me what is a compariable slr camera to the one I had. And for people shopping at bestbuy I'd beware they lie about their warranties and seem to know very little about any of their products or warranties or are just flat out telling customers the wrong info to get them to buy and it might just be this one on so beware if you live in Florida stay clear of Bestbuy in Gainesville florida off Archer rd

+Amazingly the 40D is , by default, still the best performer today at the start of 2011 amongst the Canon crop frame DSLRs.
It was always better than its successor the 50D, Canon has made a hash of both the 60D and 7D by piling too many pixels onto their sensors.
