Great camera for the price had it for about 4 months now shot over 3 thousands pictures with-out any problems, just keep a lens on it to keep the sensor clean and if it needs to be there's a very easy instructions in your manual to do it your self or take it to best-buy.

it does indeed, especially paired with the 50mm f/1.8 ("nifty fifty") :)

Probably not, unless you plan on shooting in dusty/dirty conditions it isn't too big of a deal.

I am debating buying this camera as my first personal DSLR camera. Is the lack of a self- cleaning sensor really that much of a con? Should I spend more  money on a camera that does have one?

I Have this camera and did alot of research on it before I bought it and found that alot of things on the internet talk about how bad it is when actually it is a very well made camera. It is worth the money and produces great photos. If anyone is looking for a good camera thats easy to use I would highly recomend this camera.

I have a question, do you think it would be worth it to sell my Canon T3 and buy a used 40D that just had its shutter replaced? The things that worry me is how it will fit in my hand, and the cropping difference between this camera and that one. How much better is the picture quality truly on the 40D? Also how much cropping will I lose going from 12.2 mp to 10.1? Thank you for any clarification.

The Canon T3 specs are updated now.

That is good to know for my own personal information as well, because now there is no question that I have to use blowers to clean the dust of the sensor, but I will not attempt any more drastic means like swabbing.

Hi Darth, yes the T3 does accept EF and EF-S lenses, we include both when we display the # of lenses available.  Lack of image stabilization is listed as a con because DSLRs from Sony and Pentax (for example) include in-body image stabilization which means you get IS with all lenses.

Hi Julian, good catch, it looks like according to Canon that the T3 lacks the automatic sensor cleaning that the T3i has (for example), we'll get the specs updated.

I keep reading from various sites as well as the manual for the camera that it does not have a self cleaning sensor. Yet for various versus against other cameras your site states that it does, I would appreciate if that was checked out, Thank you.

in comparison to the canon sx30 is, i thought it would get greater rate but it didn't! This camera is smaller and lighter and even though it doesn't have flip-out screen or an image stabilizer it has a WAY bigger sensor and higher true pixels., with the correct settings you wouldn't need the UltraSonic Image Stabilizer...

just going over the specs, it says  that the T3  accepts EF lenses which is true but it also accepts EF-S lenses. Also why lable no image stabilization a con?? a lot if not most canon lenses come with image stabilization so IMO that should not be considered a con.

With only 12 megapixels on an aps-c sensor and the newest digic 4 processor, I bet it takes great stills!

Thanks for pointing that out, I think we had quoted the RAW value, but it can shoot 3fps JPEG, we'll fix that up.
